What are Dental Veneers
Porcelain Veneers are thin, custom-made veneers are used to improve the shape, color, and symmetry of your smile while maintaining a natural appearance. Can be made of all porcelain (e.max) or of a translucent Zirconia. E,max has slightly better esthetics, while Zirconia is more chip resistant. Our goal is to provide treatment options that improve both oral health and long-term quality of life. Every recommendation is based on your individual needs, goals, and overall dental condition.
Veneers can be an excellent option for correcting chipped, stained, worn, uneven, or slightly misaligned teeth, creating a brighter and more balanced smile with minimal removal of natural tooth structure. Because every smile is unique, our dentists carefully evaluate your oral health, facial features, bite, and cosmetic goals before recommending veneers. This personalized approach helps ensure beautiful, natural-looking results that complement your smile while providing long-lasting durability and function.
Our philosophy is a conservative approach to a smile makeover
Who Is a Good Candidate for Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are often the best option for patients who have:
- Healthy teeth with good overall structure
- Mildly crooked or uneven teeth
- Small gaps between teeth
- Worn or chipped front teeth
- Permanent discoloration that whitening cannot correct
- Teeth that have already been straightened with orthodontics
If your teeth are generally healthy but you want a whiter, straighter, more attractive smile, veneers may be the most conservative way to achieve your goals.
Professional Laser Teeth Whitening is often one of the first steps in a smile makeover, helping brighten your natural teeth before bonding, veneers, or other cosmetic procedures
Injected Resin veneers is another option to porcelain veneers. Also dental bonding is another option.
Smile Makeovers with Porcelain Veneers
For many patients, porcelain veneers are the ideal way to create a brighter, more youthful, and perfectly balanced smile while preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible.
A veneer is a thin custom-made shell that is bonded to the front surface of the tooth. During treatment, only a small amount of enamel is carefully removed from the front and edges of the tooth, allowing the veneer to fit naturally and securely. Unlike “no-prep” veneers, properly prepared veneers create a much stronger bond and provide greater long-term reliability.
Porcelain veneers are designed to improve the color, shape, size, and overall symmetry of your smile while maintaining a conservative approach to cosmetic dentistry. Because only the front of the tooth is covered, much more of the natural tooth structure is preserved compared to a full dental crown.
Modern porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining and offer beautiful translucency that closely resembles natural tooth enamel. They can dramatically transform a smile while still looking completely natural.
Real Smile Makeover Results with Porcelain Veneers
Every smile is unique, which is why each veneer treatment is custom designed to complement the patient’s facial features, personality, and goals. The examples below show how porcelain veneers can improve the color, shape, size, and symmetry of the teeth while creating beautiful, natural-looking smiles. During your consultation, we’ll help determine whether porcelain veneers are the best option for your smile makeover. A smile makeover does not necessarily mean crowning every visible tooth. Depending on the condition of your teeth, porcelain veneers may provide a more conservative alternative to crowns
These before-and-after cases demonstrate what is possible with a properly planned smile makeover. From worn and uneven teeth to a balanced, natural-looking result, each transformation is tailored to the individual.
By combining veneers, crowns, and restorative techniques, we address both cosmetic concerns and underlying functional issues. The result is a smile that not only looks better, but feels more comfortable and performs better over time. Composite fillings can also be used cosmetically to repair small chips, close gaps, and improve the appearance of your smile.

A smile makeover may use different materials depending on the patient’s goals, which is why we recommend understanding the differences between porcelain and composite veneers before choosing treatment. When Veneers May Not Be the Best Choice
Although veneers are an excellent cosmetic treatment, they are not the right solution for every patient.
If your teeth are severely worn from grinding, have large fillings, extensive decay, previous root canals, significant crowding, or major bite problems, veneers may not provide enough strength or support for a long-lasting restoration.
In these cases, full zirconia crowns often produce a more predictable, durable, and functional result because they completely rebuild and strengthen the entire tooth while improving its appearance.
For many smile makeover patients, the decision isn’t simply “veneers or crowns.” During your consultation, we’ll evaluate your bite, tooth structure, smile line, facial features, and long-term goals to determine which treatment will provide the healthiest and most beautiful result.
Porcelain vs. Zirconia Veneers
Most people are familiar with porcelain veneers, but modern cosmetic dentistry also offers veneers made from high-strength zirconia.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain remains the most popular material because it provides exceptional translucency, lifelike color, and outstanding cosmetic results. It closely mimics the way natural enamel reflects light, making it an excellent choice for patients seeking the most natural appearance.
Zirconia Veneers
For patients who grind or clench their teeth, zirconia veneers may be recommended. Zirconia is significantly stronger than traditional porcelain and is much more resistant to chipping or fracture. Newer multilayer translucent zirconia materials also provide excellent esthetics while offering greater durability.
Although translucent zirconia veneers generally cost slightly more than traditional porcelain veneers, many patients appreciate the added strength and long-term durability they provide.
Both porcelain and zirconia veneers can create beautiful smile makeover results. Porcelain veneers remain the most popular choice because they offer exceptional translucency and closely mimic the appearance of natural tooth enamel. Zirconia veneers, on the other hand, are stronger and more resistant to chipping, making them an excellent option for patients who grind or clench their teeth. Porcelain veneers are typically slightly less expensive than translucent zirconia veneers, and both treatments can usually be completed in the same timeframe. During your consultation, we’ll help you choose the material that best fits your smile, bite, and long-term goals.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are often the best option for patients who have:
- Healthy teeth with good overall structure
- Mildly crooked or uneven teeth
- Small gaps between teeth
- Worn or chipped front teeth
- Permanent discoloration that whitening cannot correct
- Teeth that have already been straightened with orthodontics
If your teeth are generally healthy but you want a whiter, straighter, more attractive smile, veneers may be the most conservative way to achieve your goals.
Composite (Injected Resin) Veneers
Not every smile makeover requires porcelain.
Composite or injected resin veneers offer a faster and more affordable alternative for patients who want to improve the appearance of their smile without the cost of porcelain restorations.
Using a custom digital design and precision template, tooth-colored composite resin is injected directly onto the prepared teeth to create a new shape and appearance. The procedure is typically completed in fewer visits than porcelain veneers and requires less laboratory work.
While composite veneers are more prone to staining and chipping than porcelain or zirconia, they also have an important advantage: they can usually be repaired rather than replaced. Small chips or wear can often be corrected by adding new composite resin and polishing the restoration, making them an excellent option for patients looking for an economical smile enhancement.
Composite veneers are an excellent option for patients who want an affordable smile makeover with beautiful immediate results while preserving the flexibility to make future adjustments or repairs if needed.
What are Zirconia Crowns
Dental Crowns
Restore damaged or worn teeth with durable, natural-looking crowns designed to improve both strength and aesthetics. The best crowns are made of Zirconia, which is much harder and resistant to porcelain or PFM crowns. Zirconia crowns are commonly used as part of smile makeovers, full mouth rehabilitation, and restorative treatment plans. With proper care and regular dental visits, they can provide excellent long-term durability, function, and appearance.
Because zirconia crowns are digitally designed and precision milled using advanced CAD/CAM technology, they provide an exceptionally accurate fit, helping to restore proper bite alignment, protect weakened teeth, and create a strong, beautiful smile that can last for many years.
Missing teeth can sometimes be restored with zirconia dental implants as part of a comprehensive smile makeover.

This patient severely wore down his teeth from years of grinding. A full smile makeover with custom zirconia crowns restored his bite, protected his teeth, and gave him a healthy, natural-looking smile..
Many patients come to us asking for veneers, only to discover that zirconia crowns are actually the better long-term solution. During your consultation, we’ll explain all of your options and recommend the treatment that preserves as much healthy tooth structure as possible while giving you the strongest, most natural-looking smile. Our goal isn’t to sell you veneers or crowns—it’s to recommend the treatment that’s right for your smile.
Smile Makeovers with Zirconia Crowns
For many patients, a beautiful smile isn’t just about appearance—it’s also about restoring strength and proper function. Full zirconia crowns are often one of the best choices for patients with worn, damaged, or heavily restored teeth.
Patients who grind or clench their teeth (bruxism) can wear their natural teeth down over time, leaving them short, flat, and unattractive. In many cases, we can rebuild the entire smile with custom CAD/CAM zirconia crowns, restoring the natural shape of the teeth, correcting the bite, and creating a healthy, confident smile.
Unlike porcelain fused to metal crowns, modern zirconia crowns are milled from a solid block of high-strength zirconia using advanced digital CAD/CAM technology. This allows each crown to fit precisely over the prepared tooth with exceptional accuracy, requiring less cement and creating a stronger, more predictable restoration.
Zirconia is also one of the strongest materials available in modern dentistry. It resists chipping and cracking far better than traditional porcelain, making it an excellent choice for patients who have a history of grinding or heavy biting forces. While we still recommend wearing a custom night guard to protect your investment, zirconia crowns are designed to provide exceptional durability for many years.
In addition to their strength, today’s multilayer zirconia crowns offer a beautiful, natural appearance that closely resembles healthy tooth enamel. They are an excellent solution for teeth weakened by large fillings, fractures, decay, or previous root canal treatment, allowing us to restore both the beauty and function of your smile.
Why Patients Choose Zirconia Crowns
- Exceptional strength and durability
- Natural-looking color and translucency
- Ideal for patients who grind or clench their teeth
- Digitally designed and precision milled using CAD/CAM technology
- Excellent fit with minimal cement thickness
- Restores worn, broken, or heavily restored teeth
- Long-lasting cosmetic and functional results
Veneers vs. Zirconia Crowns
Porcelain Veneers are often best for:
- Healthy teeth with good structure
- Minor chips or uneven edges
- Small gaps between teeth
- Mild discoloration
- Slightly crooked teeth
Full Zirconia Crowns are often the better choice for:
- Teeth worn down by grinding (bruxism)
- Large fillings or weakened teeth
- Teeth with previous root canals
- Fractured or heavily damaged teeth
- Significant crowding or overlapping teeth
- Patients who need both cosmetic improvement and stronger, more functional teeth
Choosing between porcelain veneers and zirconia crowns depends on the condition of your teeth and your long-term goals. During your consultation, we’ll carefully evaluate your smile, bite, and oral health to recommend the treatment that will provide the most beautiful, natural-looking, and long-lasting results.
When Zirconia Crowns Are a Better Choice Than Veneers
Porcelain veneers are an excellent option for patients with healthy teeth who simply want to improve the color, shape, or minor alignment of their smile. Veneers require only a small amount of tooth preparation and can produce beautiful, natural-looking results.
However, not every patient is a good candidate for veneers.
If your teeth are severely worn from grinding, have large fillings, extensive decay, fractures, previous root canals, or significant crowding and overlap, veneers may not provide the strength or support needed for a long-lasting result.
In these situations, full zirconia crowns are often the preferred solution. Because the crown completely covers the tooth, it allows us to rebuild its shape, restore proper bite alignment, strengthen weakened teeth, and create a beautiful, balanced smile at the same time.
Many of our smile makeover patients ultimately achieve the best long-term results with zirconia crowns rather than veneers. Modern multilayer zirconia combines exceptional strength with a highly natural appearance, making it one of the most versatile materials available for comprehensive cosmetic dentistry.
Unlike traditional porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, zirconia crowns are digitally designed and precision milled using advanced CAD/CAM technology. This creates an extremely accurate fit while eliminating the dark metal edge sometimes seen with older crown designs. The result is a restoration that looks natural, feels comfortable, and is built to withstand years of everyday use.
Dental Bridges to Replace teeth
Missing teeth don’t have to prevent you from achieving a beautiful smile. Dental bridges are a permanent solution that can replace one or more missing teeth while restoring your smile, chewing ability, and proper bite alignment. Unlike removable partial dentures, a dental bridge is securely cemented into place, allowing you to smile and eat with confidence.
Dental bridges are often included as part of a smile makeover for patients who want to replace missing teeth but may not have the time or budget required for dental implants. While implants remain the ideal treatment in many situations, bridges can provide an excellent long-term solution that restores both appearance and function without requiring multiple surgical appointments.
Bridges can be fabricated from several different materials depending on the location of the missing teeth and your cosmetic goals. Full zirconia bridges offer exceptional strength, durability, and a highly natural appearance, making them our preferred choice for most smile makeover cases. In the front of the mouth, porcelain bridges may also provide beautiful esthetic results, while porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) bridges remain a reliable and economical option in many situations.
Because back teeth are exposed to much greater chewing forces, bridges made entirely from traditional porcelain are generally not recommended for molars, where they are more susceptible to fracture. Zirconia provides the strength needed for these high-pressure areas while maintaining excellent esthetics and long-term durability.
Whether you choose a dental bridge or dental implants, our goal is to restore a complete, balanced smile that looks natural, functions properly, and gives you the confidence to smile again.

Dental Implants in a Smile Makeover
A beautiful smile isn’t just about straight, white teeth—it’s also about replacing missing teeth in a way that looks natural and lasts for many years. Dental implants are often the best solution for smile makeover patients who want to permanently replace one or more missing teeth while preserving their jawbone and restoring full chewing function.
Unlike a traditional dental bridge, a dental implant replaces both the root and the crown of the missing tooth. Because the implant is anchored directly into the jawbone, it helps maintain healthy bone and prevents the bone loss that naturally occurs after a tooth is lost. This creates a stronger, healthier foundation for your new smile.
Dental implants can replace a single missing tooth, multiple missing teeth, or even support larger restorations such as implant-supported bridges and All-on-4® full-arch restorations. Whether you’re missing a front tooth, a bicuspid, or a molar, implants allow us to create a smile that looks, feels, and functions much like natural teeth.
Many smile makeover patients choose to restore their visible teeth with veneers or crowns while also replacing missing teeth with dental implants. During treatment, temporary restorations can be placed so you never have to go without a smile while your implants heal. Once the implants have fully integrated with the bone, custom abutments and lifelike crowns are fabricated to match the rest of your smile seamlessly.
Although treatment with dental implants takes longer than a traditional bridge, many patients feel the additional time is worthwhile because implants provide a permanent solution that preserves bone, protects neighboring teeth, and offers exceptional long-term stability.
If your treatment plan includes dental implants, additional procedures such as bone grafting or a sinus lift may sometimes be recommended to create a strong, healthy foundation for your new smile. Our goal is to give you a smile that not only looks beautiful today but continues to function and look great for many years to come.

Typical Cost of a Smile Makeover in Tijuana
Every smile makeover is unique because every patient’s smile is different. Some patients achieve the smile they want with porcelain veneers alone, while others require crowns, bridges, dental implants, or a combination of treatments to restore both appearance and function.
For that reason, there is no single price for a smile makeover. The total investment depends entirely on your oral health, your cosmetic goals, and the treatment needed to achieve the best long-term result.
Typical Treatment Costs
Many smile makeovers involve restoring the visible front teeth with veneers or crowns.
Typical examples include:
- Six veneers or crowns: approximately $3,000 USD
- Eight veneers or crowns: approximately $4,000 USD
- Ten veneers or crowns: approximately $5,000 USD
A comprehensive smile makeover often includes treatment on both the upper and lower teeth. Patients restoring approximately 18 to 20 teeth generally invest $9,000 to $10,000 USD, provided no additional procedures such as root canals, dental implants, bridges, or extractions are required.
If additional restorative treatment is necessary, the total investment will vary depending on the complexity of your individual case.
Veneers or Crowns?
One of the most important decisions during a smile makeover is whether veneers or crowns will provide the best long-term result.
Porcelain or zirconia veneers are ideal for patients whose teeth are generally healthy, well aligned, and require only cosmetic improvements. Because veneers require only minimal removal of natural tooth structure, they are the most conservative cosmetic treatment.
However, veneers are not appropriate for everyone. Patients with severe wear, large fillings, weakened teeth, or bite problems may be better served with crowns. Veneers can chip or become dislodged if excessive biting forces are placed on them, particularly in patients with an edge-to-edge bite or heavy grinding habits.
Crowns completely surround the tooth, providing significantly greater strength and durability. At Dr. Mexico Dental Group, zirconia crowns are commonly recommended for smile makeover cases because they offer excellent strength, beautiful esthetics, and outstanding long-term performance.
Since both veneers and crowns are typically approximately $500 USD per tooth, the decision is based on what will provide the healthiest, strongest, and most predictable long-term result rather than on cost alone.
Digital Smile Design
Every smile makeover begins with careful planning.
Using Digital Smile Design, your dentist can create a digital simulation of your future smile before treatment begins. This allows you to preview the proposed shape, size, proportions, and overall appearance of your new smile before any teeth are prepared.
Digital Smile Design is generally included as part of your smile makeover when treatment proceeds. If a patient requests Digital Smile Design but decides not to continue with treatment, a laboratory planning fee of approximately $400 USD may apply to cover the laboratory’s design work.
Payment Schedule
Because smile makeovers usually require custom laboratory restorations, treatment is completed in stages.
During your first appointment, your teeth are prepared, Digital Smile Design is completed if appropriate, impressions or digital scans are taken, and temporary restorations are placed while your permanent veneers or crowns are fabricated.
Since laboratory fabrication begins immediately, we generally collect approximately 50% to 60% of the restorative treatment cost during the preparation appointment. The remaining balance is paid when your final restorations are delivered and permanently bonded or cemented into place.
If your smile makeover also includes dental implants, root canals, extractions, or other procedures, those treatments are completed according to their own treatment stages and payment schedule.
Your Treatment Plan
A beautiful smile is about much more than white teeth. Your dentist will evaluate your bite, tooth alignment, facial proportions, gum health, and overall oral health before recommending the most appropriate treatment.
You’ll receive a comprehensive written treatment plan explaining whether veneers, crowns, implants, or other procedures are recommended, along with a detailed estimate of all expected costs before treatment begins. Our goal is to create a smile that not only looks beautiful but also functions comfortably and lasts for many years.
Many patients are surprised to learn that even without insurance coverage, a smile makeover in Tijuana can cost a fraction of what they would pay in the United States or Canada. The savings are often substantial enough to cover travel expenses while still making it possible to achieve the healthy, beautiful smile they’ve always wanted—all with personalized treatment planning and high-quality materials. Even after factoring in travel expenses, many of our patients save thousands of dollars while receiving high-quality cosmetic dentistry from experienced professionals.

FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions
How many days do I need to stay in Tijuana for a smile makeover?
The amount of time needed depends on the type of treatment involved and the condition of your teeth. Many cosmetic smile makeover treatments can be completed in about 5 to 7 days, especially when using veneers, crowns, or cosmetic restorations. More complex full-mouth rehabilitation cases may require treatment in phases with additional visits. During your consultation and evaluation, we will explain the recommended treatment plan, timeline, and travel requirements so you can plan your trip with confidence
Are smile makeovers only cosmetic, or can they improve function too?
While smile makeovers primarily focus on improving the aesthetics of your smile, they can also address dental issues that contribute to better oral health. For example, correcting misalignment can improve bite function and reduce the risk of dental problems.
Will my new smile look natural?
Yes. Our goal is to create a smile that looks natural, balanced, and appropriate for your facial features — not an artificial or overly aggressive “Hollywood” look. We carefully plan each case using facial proportions, smile design principles, and clinical experience to achieve results that look attractive while still appearing natural. We also work closely with you on tooth shape, size, and shade selection to help ensure the final result fits your appearance and personal preferences.
We design smiles using digital planning and clinical experience to avoid oversized, unnatural, or overly white restorations.
Is it safe to get cosmetic dental treatment in Tijuana?
Yes — when performed by experienced clinicians using modern materials and protocols.
Our clinic follows international sterilization standards, uses advanced diagnostic imaging, and focuses on predictable, long-term outcomes.
Many patients from the U.S. and Canada travel to Tijuana for high-quality cosmetic dentistry at a more accessible cost.
How long do smile makeover results last?
With proper care, high-quality cosmetic restorations can last 10–20 years or longer depending on the materials used and oral habits.
We emphasize durable treatment planning rather than short-term cosmetic fixes.
Will smile makeover treatment be painful?
Most cosmetic procedures involve minimal discomfort.
Local anesthesia and modern techniques ensure a comfortable experience.
Some mild sensitivity or soreness may occur temporarily, but patients typically return to normal activities quickly.
Do I need implants for a smile makeover?
Not always.
Implants are only recommended when missing teeth or structural issues require them.
Many smile makeovers focus on aesthetic improvements such as crowns, veneers, or bite correction without implants.
Can I preview my smile before treatment?
Yes. In many cases we provide digital smile planning or mock-up previews so you can visualize the expected outcome before treatment begins.
This helps ensure alignment between your goals and the final result.
How much can I save on a smile makeover in Mexico?
Patients typically save 40% to 70% compared to U.S. pricing, depending on the treatment plan.
However, treatment decisions are based on clinical needs — not budget alone.
Our focus is on delivering high-value, long-lasting results.
Will I need follow-up visits after my smile makeover?
Some complex cases may require follow-up visits, especially when treatment is staged.
We provide clear post-treatment instructions and long-term maintenance guidance to protect your investment.
Am I a good candidate for a smile makeover?
Most adults with healthy gums and a desire to improve the appearance or function of their smile are good candidates for a smile makeover. During your consultation, we’ll evaluate your teeth, bite, gum health, facial features, and cosmetic goals to determine which combination of veneers, crowns, whitening, implants, or other treatments will provide the best long-term results.
What treatments are included in a smile makeover?
Every smile makeover is customized to the patient’s needs. Your treatment plan may include porcelain veneers, zirconia crowns, teeth whitening, dental implants, bridges, bonding, orthodontics, gum contouring, Digital Smile Design, or a combination of procedures designed to create a healthy, natural-looking smile.
Can a smile makeover correct worn or short teeth?
Yes. Teeth that have become worn from grinding (bruxism), acid erosion, or years of normal wear can often be rebuilt using zirconia crowns or porcelain restorations. Restoring the proper tooth length can improve both your smile and your bite while protecting your remaining natural tooth structure.
Can a smile makeover improve the shape and proportions of my teeth?
Yes. A smile makeover can improve teeth that appear too short, narrow, uneven, worn, pointed, or out of proportion with your smile and facial features. Depending on your needs, porcelain veneers, zirconia crowns, cosmetic bonding, orthodontics, or gum contouring may be used to create better symmetry, more balanced tooth dimensions, and a more harmonious overall smile
Can I choose how white I want my new smile?
Yes. During the smile design process, you’ll discuss your preferred tooth shade with your dentist. Whether you want a bright Hollywood smile or a softer, more natural appearance, we’ll help you choose a shade that fits your goals and looks great with your complexion.
How long does a complete smile makeover take?
Treatment time depends on the procedures included in your treatment plan. Veneers and crowns are often completed within a few days, while smile makeovers involving dental implants may require additional healing time. We’ll provide a detailed schedule before treatment begins so you can plan your trip with confidence.
Can old crowns or veneers be replaced during a smile makeover?
Absolutely. Many patients come to us with older crowns or veneers that no longer match their smile or have become worn or damaged. We can replace outdated restorations with modern porcelain or zirconia restorations that provide a more natural appearance and improved durability.
What if I have missing teeth and crooked teeth?
A smile makeover can often address multiple problems during the same treatment plan. Depending on your needs, we may recommend orthodontics, dental implants, bridges, veneers, or zirconia crowns to restore both the appearance and function of your smile.
Are zirconia crowns better than porcelain crowns for smile makeovers?
Both materials produce excellent cosmetic results, but zirconia crowns offer greater strength and resistance to chipping. They are often recommended for patients with worn teeth, large fillings, or a history of grinding, while porcelain restorations may be selected in certain situations where maximum translucency is desired.
Can I finance my smile makeover?
Many patients choose to pay for treatment in stages or use healthcare financing available in their home country. Because cosmetic dentistry in Tijuana is often significantly more affordable than in the United States or Canada, many patients are able to complete treatment without traditional financing.
How do I care for my smile after treatment?
Maintaining your new smile is simple. Brush and floss daily, attend regular dental checkups, avoid using your teeth to open packages or bite hard objects, and wear a custom night guard if you grind your teeth. With proper care, your restorations can provide beautiful results for many years.
