Only About Five Minutes from the San Ysidro Border
Once you cross into Tijuana at San Ysidro, Dr. Mexico Dental Group is only about a five-minute drive from the border in Zona Río, one of the city’s principal business and medical districts.
The route is straightforward. From the border area, you enter Zona Río and continue along Paseo de los Héroes, one of Tijuana’s main avenues. Along the way, you’ll pass familiar landmarks including Costco, Plaza Río, and several of Zona Río’s well-known traffic circles.

This convenient location is especially helpful for patients coming from San Diego and Southern California. Whether you’re visiting for a consultation, dental crowns, implants, or another procedure, staying close to the border can make appointments easier and reduce travel time.
For many treatments, patients can visit our Tijuana dental clinic and return to the United States the same day, making cross-border dental care surprisingly convenient.

We provide free patient transportation from the border to Dr. Mexico Dental Group. When you park on the U.S. side, simply give us a call or send us a message to let us know you’re starting your walk across. Driving from the U.S. Border to Our Zona Río Clinic
If you prefer to drive across the border, reaching Dr. Mexico Dental Group is relatively straightforward. Our clinic is located in Zona Río, about five minutes from the San Ysidro border under normal traffic conditions, and much of the route follows one of Tijuana’s principal avenues.
After entering Tijuana, you’ll make your way toward Paseo de los Héroes, the main avenue running through Zona Río. You’ll pass several easy-to-recognize landmarks, including Costco and Plaza Río, as you continue through the district.
Stay on Paseo de los Héroes through the traffic circles. After passing the Abraham Lincoln monument and traffic circle, continue approximately two more blocks. You’ll see Office Depot, with the tall blue Excel Hospital building just ahead.
Turn right immediately after passing Office Depot, before reaching Excel Hospital. Then turn left at the next corner. Our clinic is located in the Medical Norte building.
We’ll provide directions before your visit, and using these major landmarks makes the clinic relatively easy to find even if it’s your first time driving in Tijuana.
Patients crossing from San Diego can often schedule a dental examination and cleaning as a convenient day visit. See how long a dental cleaning usually takes when planning your trip to Tijuana.
Driving from the border is simple: follow Paseo de los Héroes past the Abraham Lincoln traffic circle, then use Office Depot and Excel Hospital as your final landmarks before reaching our Medical Norte clinic.
A Convenient Location in the Heart of Zona Río
Being close to the border doesn’t mean our clinic is located in a busy border district. Dr. Mexico Dental Group is in Zona Río, Tijuana’s modern business, medical, and commercial district.
The clinic is located in the Medical Norte building near Excel Hospital, just off Paseo de los Héroes. This puts our patients close to many of the services they may need during a dental visit, including hotels, restaurants, pharmacies, shopping, and medical facilities.
For patients staying overnight, this location is especially convenient. You can stay in Zona Río near the clinic rather than traveling back and forth across the border between appointments. Our patient transportation can also help with trips between the clinic and your Tijuana hotel.
Zona Río is also conveniently located between the San Ysidro border and downtown Tijuana, so patients who want to explore the city have easy access to other well-known areas without being far from the clinic.

Convenient for Dental Treatment That Requires Multiple Visits
Being only minutes from the U.S. border can make a significant difference when your dental treatment requires more than one appointment. Instead of planning a major trip into Mexico each time, patients from San Diego and Southern California can cross at San Ysidro, come directly to our Zona Río clinic, and return to the United States after their appointment.
This can be particularly helpful for treatments such as dental implants, crowns and bridges, full-mouth rehabilitation, root canal treatment, and cosmetic dentistry, where treatment may involve several appointments or separate stages.
For example, dental implant treatment often includes an initial surgical visit followed by a healing period and a later visit to complete the final restoration. Being close to the border makes those return appointments much easier to plan.
Some procedures can be completed during a same-day visit to Tijuana, while more extensive treatment may make an overnight stay more practical. Before you travel, we’ll explain your expected treatment schedule so you know how many trips are likely, how long each visit should take, and whether staying overnight is recommended.
For patients who do stay in Tijuana, there are several hotels conveniently located near our clinic in Zona Río. Read about the Timeline for Healing and Recovery from Dental Implant surgery.
An Easy Dental Trip from San Diego
For patients in San Diego County, visiting a dentist in Tijuana can be surprisingly convenient. The San Ysidro border crossing is directly south of San Diego, and our clinic is located only a few minutes beyond the border in Zona Río.
You don’t need to drive your own vehicle into Mexico. Many patients simply drive to San Ysidro, park on the U.S. side, walk across the border, and meet our driver at the designated pickup point near Farmacia Roma. From there, we provide transportation directly to Dr. Mexico Dental Group.
This arrangement allows patients to receive dental treatment in Tijuana while keeping the U.S. portion of the trip familiar and straightforward. After your appointment, we’ll take you back to the border, where you can cross into San Ysidro and return to your vehicle.
For patients coming from farther away, San Diego International Airport also provides convenient access to the Tijuana border, making our location practical for patients traveling from other parts of California and the United States.
Whether you’re coming from San Diego for a single appointment or making several trips for more extensive dental treatment, our proximity to the U.S. border helps keep the travel portion of your dental care as simple as possible. Patients traveling from Southern California can also review our dental implant procedure guide to understand how implant placement, healing, and follow-up visits are typically organized.
Crossing the Border for Your Dental Appointment
For many first-time dental patients, crossing into Tijuana sounds more complicated than it actually is. Thousands of people cross between San Ysidro and Tijuana every day, and you do not need to be an experienced Mexico traveler to visit our clinic.
If you’re walking across, park on the U.S. side and enter Mexico through the San Ysidro pedestrian crossing. After passing through Mexican immigration and customs, follow the instructions we provide to reach our pickup point near Farmacia Roma. Our driver will meet you there and take you to the clinic.
Returning to the United States is also straightforward. After your appointment, we can take you back to the border, where you’ll enter the pedestrian line and proceed through U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Return wait times can vary considerably depending on the day and time. For qualifying patients, we can also explain the medical fast-pass option for vehicles and the border shuttle option that may help pedestrians avoid a long regular pedestrian line.
Before your first appointment, we’ll provide the information you need so you know where to park, where to cross, where we’ll meet you, and how you’ll return to the United States.
Visiting a Tijuana Dentist for the First Time?
If you’ve never traveled to Tijuana for dental care, it’s normal to have questions about more than just your treatment. You may be wondering where to cross the border, where to park, how you’ll find the clinic, or whether you’ll be comfortable getting around Tijuana.
That’s why we help patients with the logistics as well as their dental appointments. Before you travel, we can explain where to park on the U.S. side, how to walk across at San Ysidro, where our driver will meet you, and what to expect when you arrive at the clinic.
Once you’re here, you’ll find that Zona Río feels very different from what some first-time visitors imagine when they think about a border city. It’s a modern commercial and medical district with major hospitals, hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, and professional offices.
And because Dr. Mexico Dental Group is only about five minutes from the U.S. border, you don’t have to learn your way around the entire city just to see your dentist. If you park in San Ysidro and use our shuttle, we’ll handle the transportation between the border and clinic for you.
Our goal is simple: you concentrate on your dental care, and we’ll help make the Tijuana part of your visit easy to navigate.
